At Advanced Concepts and Technologies International, we take action every day, delivering for our customers and our communities. It’s why when we say ACT I in ACTION, we mean it; it’s not just a tagline, it’s a principle that highlights who we are and how we work as a company.
That same principle drives our team even in the face of COVID-19, where members of ACT I have put their incredible talents to work to support their organizations and their communities.
When a call from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) went out for volunteers to create masks for employees, ACT I team member Jennefer Huynh went into action. A Financial Analyst on ACT I’s DARPA team, Jennefer put her talents to work as a force for good during COVID-19 supporting her customer and her community. Together with her husband, Peter, she used the fabric provided by DARPA to create reversible masks for use by the organization. “My husband was in charge of measuring and cutting the fabric, and ironing on the pleats. I sewed the ties and masks together,” said Huynh. Upon completion, she delivered them back to DARPA, where along with the team of volunteers from across the organization, she contributed enough masks that each person was able to take multiple home for use.
For Jennefer, the call to action did not end there. Instead, she literally answered a call that led to her supporting her local community. When her friend Jae You, who owns the popular local Korean BBQ Taco Box food truck, reached out with the idea to prepare meals for local hospitals as part of his own charitable work, Jennefer went to work connecting the food truck to Inova Fairfax Hospital to provide meals for healthcare professionals across the facility. A Registered Nurse who worked for over seven years at Inova, Jennefer connected the food truck with her colleagues from the Cardiovascular ICU and Progressive Coronary Care Unit at the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute. Thanks to money raised by a GoFundMe, the food truck delivered over 600 meals to local hospitals in April 2020, including 200 meals to Inova! As a company, ACT I delivered meals to nearby Virginia hospitals in April as well as part of its community engagement to support healthcare professionals and first responders during COVID-19.
Huynh joined ACT I in December. Since then, she has thrived as a member of ACT I and as a champion for causes like preparing masks for her fellow DARPA Teammates. In reflecting on her ACT I experience, Jennefer said, “I am happy to be a part of a company that cares about their employees this way, it did not feel like just another acquisition. It also helps when you have a great PM, like Cliff Park, in your corner! My experience with ACT I has been positive thus far and I am looking forward to continuing this journey!”
